Food Massaman Curry

Now I will discuss about food that caught my attention. This food is the most delicious in the world. This food is in the first place in here http://travel.cnn.com/explorations/eat/worlds-50-most-delicious-foods-067535. Indonesian rendang is in 11 but know we don't talk about rendang but we talk about Massaman curry. This food is from thailand. It's name Massaman curry. These foods have a price around 60.000-150.000 rupiah. Massaman or matsaman is not a native Thai word. It is generally thought to refer to the Muslims with earlier writers from the mid-19th century calling the dish "Mussulman curry"; Mussulman being an archaic form of the word Muslim. The curry is extolled in a poem from the end of the 18th century, attributed to Prince Itsarasunthon of Siam, the later King Rama II (1767-1824). It is dedicated to a lady who is believed to be Princess Bunrot, the later Queen Sri Suyendra, wife of King Rama II.

Due to its Muslim roots and therefore islamic dietary laws, this curry is most commonly made with beef, but there are also variations on this dish using duck, chicken, mutton, goat, or, less commonly so, pork. As pork is haram meat  (forbidden food in Islam) this last variant is of course not eaten by  muslim. The flavors of the massaman curry paste (nam phrik kaeng matsaman) come from spices that are not frequently used in other Thai curries. cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, cumin, bay leaves, nutmeg and mace would, in the 17th century, have been brought to Thailand from the Malay Archipelago and South Asia by foreigners, a trade originally dominated by Muslim traders from the Middle EastIndian subcontinent and from the archipelago itself, but increasingly threatened by the Portuguese, the Dutch and French East India Company These are combined with local produce such as dried chili pepperscilantro (coriander) seeds, lemongrassgalangal, white pepper, shrimp pasteshallots and garlic to make the massaman curry paste. This paste is first fried with coconut cream, and only then are meat, potatoes, onions, fish sauce or salt, tamarind paste, sugar, coconut milk and peanuts added. Massaman is usually eaten with rice, in a meal together with other dishes. There are also traditional versions using oranges, orange juice, or pineapple juice as additional ingredients.

If you want to make this Massaman curry here i give the procedure to make massaman curry.

 Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. beef shoulder (chuck roast) or stew beef, sliced
  • 3 tablespoon whole raw peanuts
  • 4 cup water
  • 1 medium-sized potato, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil (soybean, peanut or corn oil)
  • 3-4 tablespoon Massaman curry paste, homemade or ready-made (we recommend excellent Nittaya brand)
  • 1 1/2-2 cups coconut milk Chaokoh brand coconut milk
  • 6 whole Thai cardamom seeds, cracked and dry roasted*
  • 1 inch piece of cinnamon stick, dry roasted*
  • 2 tablespoon Thai fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar
  • 2 tablespoon tamarind water
  • 1/4 large white onion, cut into pieces (or 12 peeled whole white pearl onions)

Preparation

  1. Open the coconut milk and scoop the thick coconut cream from the top and set aside (see more details about coconut cream).
  2. Bring the 4 cup of water, beef and peanuts to boil, skimming the scum from the surface for about 5 minutes. Lower heat to medium and continue to cook at a low boil uncovered, for approximately one hour. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. Separately, bring the potatoes to boil in enough water to cover for approximately 20 minutes until just slightly under-cooked (al dente). Drain and discard the potato water (or reserve to make your own sourdough mix!). Set the potatoes aside. While the beef is cooking you may make the homemade Massaman Curry Paste.
  4. Heat oil in a large wok (or other large heavy bottom pan) over medium heat, add the curry paste and cook briefly until fragrant. Add the reserved coconut cream and fry until it begins to separate, stirring constantly. Add the boiled beef and peanuts in its broth and remainder of coconut milk, fish sauce, palm sugar, tamarind, cinnamon stick, potatoes and onion. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook 10 minutes.
  5. Adjust seasoning with fish sauce, palm sugar and tamarind water to taste. Massaman curry should be slightly sweet with a very subtle sour note from the tamarind. Serve with pickled ginger or cucumber relish as condiments.
Serves 4. This curry is even better the next day, reheated, so make double portion and freeze any left-overs.

My Holiday In White Crater

On December 25, 2014.  Me, my brother and my mom went with my uncle to the white craters.White Crater is a striking crater lake and tourist spot in a volcanic crater about 50 km south of Bandung in West Java in Indonesia. In the way there we drove through villages and crossed a bridge and a river. I went there by car which takes approximately 2 hours. There are many thousands of small market-crop farmers in the fertile valley to the south of Bandung which leads up towards the Kawah Putih area. Local food-crops grown include a wide range of fruits and vegetables. A strawberry industry is well-established in the area and many strawberry farms have fruit for sale along the
side of the highway. When we arrived there, we stopped at the foot of the mountain to buy some food because no one is selling food at the peak of White Crater. After that we bought tickets costing 100,000 rupiah. We can take a car that had been provided by staff to reach the Summit craters but i went to the summit with my own car. Finally we reached the Summit of the White Crater. On the way from the foot mountain to the top takes about 10 minutes. On the way to the top of white crater I saw some hikers who walk to the crater of Mount White. I think the hikers were very tiredness to reach the summit White Crater. The air from the top of the crater white very fresh but I also smell the sulfur.

Area around the White Crate was very clean and the parking lot was very organized. From the parking lot we must walk to the crater. We must walk down the stairs that is pretty long to reach the crater. To go down into the crater we are advised to wear masks because of the stench of sulfur in the crater is quite intense. We are also only allowed to visit the crater just for 15 minutes because if more than that then it can cause dizziness and nausea. When we descended the staircase we will see some information boards that tell us about white crater. The lake is said to have been first documented in the western world in 1837 by Dr Franz Willhelm Junghuhn, a German botanist who carried out a considerable amount of research in Indonesia. At the time, there were various local stories about the history of the area. Birds were said to be reluctant to fly near the region and villagers in the area tended to regard the forest around the lake as eerie and somewhat mysterious. These stories prompted Dr Junghuhn to investigate. He discovered Kawah Putih. There was formerly a sulfur mine at the crater although production has now ceased. A sulfur plant known as the Zwavel Ontgining Kawah Putih was first established near the lake during the period of Dutch rule in Java. The plant was later taken over during World War II by the Japanese military and operated under the name Kawah Putih Kenzanka Yokoya Ciwidey. Entry points to various tunnels which represent the remnants of these mining activities can be seen at several points around the current site. Around the white craters we can also see a very beautiful forest. Finally we reached the crater.

The crater was very beautiful and the smell of sulfur was strong because there was a good deal of steam and sulfurous gas bubbling from the lake. At the moment it is fairly crowded around the crater  because it was visited by tourists and that day is the holiday. Beside we enjoyed the crater we took many picture too in the crater. Once satisfied to see the crater we returned to the car and went home.

The Tigerman From Sumatra

Once upon a time, there was a salesman who used to travel  from village to village to sell cloth. One day, he was on his way on the road  carrying his big bundle of cloth. He walked on and on, the further he walked the bush becomes the trees which grew on each side of the road. This makes him confused looking for a way out “ Oh no, where I am now ? there is no sign of a village here. I should go back to the way that I've been through before the night come.”But when he attempted to down the road which he had passed, the road is gone “ Oh may god where is the road ? i can’t find my way back. I think i get lost.”. A long last, when he could hardly see the shadows of the trees because it started to be dark in that forest, the salesman saw a big house “ Thanks god there is a house over there.” he excitedly walked towards the house. When he knocked the door, an old woman opened the door  she said “ what are you doing here ? ” “ I am a salesmen who sell cloth from village to village. But i get lost in this forest.  Can you allowed me to stay in your house just for one night because the forest was full of tigers and i afraid if those tigers would ate me.”

The old woman feel sorry for the salesman but he could do nothing “  My husband, brother and son were all tigers. If they found you in the house, they would kill you. ” . The man felt very frightened, he didn't know what to do. Finally, the old woman felt very sorry for him and allowed the man entered the house. After a while the woman have an idea. She warned the man not to make any noise while her family was at home. Then she gave the man meal, took the bundle of cloth from him and hides him in a small room at the top of the house. Then the man growling and scratching in the room downstairs.

The tiger’s man had come home. As soon as they were inside, those tigers said they smelt a man inside the house “ what is this smell ? it’s smell like a human here. Hey my wife did you see a human around here ?” quickly the old woman said “ There were no human in the house, but half an hour ago there was a man trying to sell cloth. He left his bundle behind, and then he went to the forest to sleep under the tree. Tomorrow he'll come back for the bundle.” . Those tiger’s people were very interested in the cloth and wanted to have one. Every one of them chose a sarong and a head scarf and paid for those things with big pieces of gold since they didn't have money at all.

After dinner they decided to go back to the forest to look for the man and frightened him. It would be fun to frighten the daylights out of him, they thought. The next morning, the old woman woke up the man “ Hey wake up, you must as fast as you could before the tigers men came from the forest.”  The old woman gave him the pieces of gold and showed him the nearest way to the village. The man thanked to the woman then walked away as fast as he could. He didn’t stop until he arrived in the main road and knew that he was safe. When he looked at his bag, he saw that gold and found that they were worth a thousand times more than the cloth the tigers people had bought. He returned home as a rich man. How happy he was.

Some time latter when he had forgotten about the dangerous night, he decided to go back to the house in the forest with some expensive woven cloth and jewels to sell to the tiger’s men. But when he arrived at the place where the crossroad used to be, he found that the wide and smooth path had disappeared. For days he walked around the whole area, but he couldn't find the way to the old woman's house.

Amazing Structure

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01685/pisa-1_1685628c.jpg

Every country has its must-see sights. Italy has countless, but one that every traveler heading to the country knows is the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  The Leaning Tower of Pisa wasn’t always called that. Originally, it was just the Tower of Pisa, or the Torre di Pisa. It name is based on its location in the Pisa province of Tuscany, a district of central Italy known for its vast influence on high Italian culture, the arts and sciences. The tower itself is a campanile, while is a bell tower. The Tower of Pisa got its tilt – and became the Leaning Tower of Pisa – because it was built on soft ground and  did not have a strong foundation. This actually began during construction of the tower all the way back in 1173, but the tower began to lean further and further for decades as the tower was being built. It was finally stabilized in the 20th and 21st centuries, meaning the tower hopefully won’t completely collapse anytime soon! (If it’s any solace, the tower’s been fine for the past 841 years)

Historians can’t say for sure who built the Tower of Pisa. In 1820, historians found a piece of cast at the base of the tower with the name Bonanno Pisano written on it. Pisano was an artist and a bronze caster residing in Pisa during the 12th century, and may be the architect of the tower, but historians have also speculated that the cast with Pisano’s name may be part of a bronze door on the tower that was destroyed in 1595.Another 12th century architect, Diotisalvi, may also be responsible for the tower. However, Diotisalvi was known to sign his works, and because the Tower of Pisa has no such signature, historians remain puzzled by its true architect. So an architect is one thing, but who actually picked up the tools to build the thing? Diotisalvi is speculated as being part of the tower’s physical construction, especially because he worked on other buildings around Pisa that share similar qualities to the tower. Another builder named Gerardo di Gerardo could have taken part, as well as Giovanni di Simone, who – under the Italian sculptor and architect Giovanni Pisano – helped complete the tower’s construction.

The Tower of Pisa didn’t begin to lean because of a faulty design – at least, not on the part of the actual tower. Rather, the ground it was built on was silty subsoil, an extremely weak foundation that ultimately lead to the tower sinking into the ground – unevenly! The tilt didn’t come in until five years after construction had started in 1178, when architects began to work on the second floor. In 1272, construction on the tower continued, but the tilt was still there in full force. The builders actually tried to fix it by engineering the floors on one side taller than the side with the tilt, in an attempt to straighten it out. This didn’t work, but it did give the tower its infamous curve. Construction stopped again and resumed nearly a century later in 1319.Buildings in the modern era don’t usually take centuries to build. The Tower of Pisa was constructed over a period of 199 years! It’s funny to think about how old the foundation of the tower is compared to its upper floors – it’s a century older, at the least, than the rest of the building. Luckily, a restoration phase between 1990 to 2001 helped strengthen the foundation and touch up the building’s surface.

So here are some technical facts about the actual structure!
  • Height from ground floor: 183 feet, 3 inches – 8 stories / 55.863 metres
  • Height from foundation: 191 feet, 5.64 inches  / 58.36 metres
  • Outer base diameter: 50 feet, 9.6 inches / 15.484 metres
  • Inner base diameter: 24 feet, 2.1 inches / 7.368 metres
  • Slant angle: 3.97 degrees / 12 feet, 10 inches / 3.9 metres from the vertical
  • Elevation of Piazza del Duomo: 6 feet / 2 metres
  • Weight: 16,200 short tons / 14,700 metric tons

Interesting Place

So i was born in Banda Aceh and know i want to tell you about Aceh symbol. It is Baiturrahman mosque. It is located in the center of Banda Aceh city, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Baiturrahman Mosque, a beautiful if not imposing building in central Banda Aceh, has come to symbolize Aceh's greatness, its people's strong devotion to Islam. This Banda Aceh's landmark Mosque has survived the devastating 2004 tsunami.

The design of the Mosque combines influences of European (Dutch) colonial and Moghul Indian Islamic Architecture, it has no influence of Acehnese archtecture. The black domes are uniquely constructed from hard wood shingles combined as tiles. The marmer of the interior is from China and the windows from Belgium. The building stones are from the Netherlands. Today the mosque is the famous landmark of Banda Aceh and has become the symbol of the city and also represents the cultural uniqueness of the Acehnese people.

For residents, the 32-pillar mosque, measuring more than 1,500 square meters, is the pride of the people of Aceh. The building itself can sit 5,000 people, and many more thousands can fit into the huge compound surrounding the building for Idul Adha prayers. Eight giant minarets make the mosque visible from a distance and from the air.

A 35-meter tall tower stands close to the main gate. It is slightly tilted to the right and cracks have appeared in parts of the structure, testimony to the power of the earthquake prior to the tsunami. The pond in front of the mosque is bare of the flower pots that used to line it. Residents said the pond was filled with bodies when the water from the tsunamis receded.

An icon and symbol of hope, Baiturrahman has a controversial past. Historians are still debating whether the mosque was built in 1612 during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda, or earlier in 1292 by Sultan Alaidin Mahmudsyah. Records say that the mosque was razed to the ground in 1873 when the town was raided by Dutch forces in their attempt to colonize the sultanate. Aceh was the last territory of what is now Indonesia to be conquered by the Dutch East Indies.

At the end i want to tell you why i choose this place for my interesting place because i've been there when i was in aceh and when you come in too the mosque, you can feel the mosque is very quiet, cool, and make our hearts feel calm. So if you go to Aceh you must visit Baiturrahman mosque.

Know i want to tell you about my experience in Matswapati. What is Matswapati ??? Matswapati is SMAN 3 school event. This event was held on Saturday, September the twenty-seventh, 2014. This event was held at Bali field near SMAN 3 school Bandung. This event was held to celebrate the 204 year anniversary of the city of Bandung. I think this event is unique. This event has Sundanese culture theme. This is what makes this event unique. This event invites many good group band and solo singer like Barsena and Glenn Fredly. This event has spent 200 million rupiah. So i think it’s expensive.
Before Matswapati i and my class planned make a stan in Matswapati. So in Thursday we was make some preparation like make decoration for stan, make games for stan and etc. My class has Abimanyu theme. Who is Abimanyu ???? Abhimanyu  was the son of Arjuna and Subhadra and his life story is documented in the Hindu epi Mahabharata. Abimanyu is identic with love so my class stan makes love letter game. After preparation finished i went back to home and get rest for tomorrow.
In the morning i was wearing a sundanese traditional clothe. I wearing pangsi. This event started with parade around field Bali. After we went parade. We prepare to open our stan. In the morning bandung mayor Ridwan Kamil make opening for Matswapati event. The mayor gifted us some Trans studio free ticket. In the morning there was some showing of jaipong traditional dance and angklung group. In this event Hong community was come to. Hong community is a community that preverse sundanese traditional games like gasing and congklak. In afternoon there was some showing from TISTI and Angklung SMAN 3 Bandung. TISTI show is interesting for me because TISTI show some funny drama.
In the evening there was some wayang show and Barsena. Barsena is group band that winning the Netz academy. It’s happy when i’m watch Barsena. In the night there was show from Glenn Fredly. This is the climax from this event. When Glenn Fredly went up to the stage, the audiance got hysteria and shout call Glenn Fredly. Glenn Fredly is very talented singer because he has a beautiful voice. When Glenn Fredly was singing the audience sing along too. One of the song that Glenn Fredly bring is 'Terserah'. When Glenn Fredly sang this song i saw some couple holding hands each other. I went home at 8 o’clock. I went to home early because the street was jammed  because there was a car free night at Dago.
